Karachi (Agenzia Fides) – A TV on the Internet to offer information and formation for the faithful, thanks to modern technological means: this is the project developed by the Archdiocese of Karachi, which will be launched officially in the coming weeks. As we are told by Fr. Arthur Charles, Vicar General of the Archdiocese and Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Center, who is heading up the project, “the Web-TV will be a means for evangelization for the entire diocesan community, but also for the whole country, especially for the youth.”
Fr. Arthur specializes in social communications and fully believes in using the new technologies, especially Internet, to spread the Christian message. Two years ago, the first Catholic weekly on-line, in Urdu, the national language, which has been very well accepted by cybernauts. Fr. Arthur is one of those supporting the Church’s presence in the area of communication, both traditional (e.g. the radio) and new (e.g. Internet). This is why he decided to form a committee with the objective of extending the project to TV on the web, which has been well accepted among Church hierarchy and the faithful in general.
The TV transmission will be in two languages: Urdu and English, and will present programs on the Bible (reading and commentary), lives of the saints, and current topics, counting on participation from Archbishop Evarist Pinto of Karachi and a team of theologians and experts. For the full realization of the project, many material resources will be needed, thus the Vicariate is seeking support from the Diocese, especially from the laity, in parishes, movements, and Church associations.
The new TV station hopes to promote peace, human rights, social harmony, and the culture of life, aimed towards a fruitful dialogue with the Muslim world.
There are also programs underway on social issues, literature, current events, ethics, and religion, with the goal of spreading the message and culture of peace. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 13/10/2008)
