ASIA/TAIWAN - Letter from Bishop Chung to the youth, inviting them to participate in Taiwan’s Youth Day: “Come along with your friends for this beautiful experience.”

Tuesday, 7 October 2008

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – “Pentecost, the point of departure for the Church’s mission...The Holy Spirit, soul of the Church and principle of communion.” These quotes taken from the Holy Father Benedict XVI’s Message for the XXIII World Youth Day were used by Bishop Thomas Chung, President of the Youth Group of the Commission for Evangelization of the Taiwan Regional Bishops’ Conference, in his letter to the youth of Taiwan, inviting them to participate in the Youth Day in Taiwan, October 9-12 in the Archdiocese of Tai Pei.
Bishop Chung writes to the youth saying: “through Baptism and Confirmation, the Lord has already begun dwelling in you. So, you have become ‘temples of the Holy Spirit’...I place a sincere invitation before you, together with the Holy Father: to begin a path of life in the Holy Spirit, participating in our Youth Day.” The Commission for Evangelization has hoped to maintain the same spirit as the XXIII World Youth Day that took place in Sydney last July: ““You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). The head of youth pastoral care and evangelization for the Regional Bishops’ Conference of Taiwan told the youth: “Come along with your friends for this beautiful experience.” He especially encouraged the youth to perform concrete works of evangelization, “to overcome barriers and bear witness to the Lord in society.”
The 2008 Youth Day in Taiwan will take place on October 9-12 in Tai Pei. According to the organizers, the encounter will hold many initiatives that will help the youth to grow in their faith and missionary awareness, as it is taking place in the month of October, which is dedicated to the missions. During the 3 days of celebration of the Youth Day, there will be opportunities to share life experiences, Eucharistic Adoration and songs of praise, a drama of the Way of the Cross, evangelization activities, testimonies of young people, youth Masses, and workshops.
