ASIA/HONG KONG - Hong Kong journalist one of five new women Consultors to the Pontifical Council for Culture

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Annie Lam Shun-wai, a journalist from Hong Kong, will carry the rich heritage of the Far East to the Pontifical Council for Culture PCC which has the mission to promote dialogue between faith and culture. Ms Lam Shun-wai chairperson of the East Asia Catholic Press Association was recently appointed by Pope John Paul II Consultor to the Vatican Council presided by Cardinal Paul Poupard.
Annie Lam an expert in Chinese culture has published various books and articles and she also writes for the Catholic news agency UcaNews. Her aim will be to increase dialogue between the Church and China with an Asian view of Vatican II.
Annie Lam, who was an observer at the special Synod for Asia held in Rome in 1998, will attend the next plenary assembly of the PCC on the theme: “The Christian faith at the dawn of the new millennium and the challenge of non-belief and religious indifference”.
On the same occasion the Pope appointed four other women Consultors to the PCC : Sr Léon Zeches, editor of the Luxemburger Wort; Manuelita Nunez, delegate for Culture of the Bishops’ Conference of Panama; María Eugenia Diaz De Pfennich (Mexican), International President of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations); Agnes Adjaho Avognon from Benin.
