EUROPE/ITALY - PARISH, COMMUNICATION AND MISSION THE FOCUS OF THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE STANDING COUNCIL OF THE ITALIAN BISHOPS CONFERENCE WHICH OPENS TODAY

Rome (Fides Service) – Today, 19 January, the Standing Council of the Italian Bishops’ Conference CEI will open its annual assembly in Rome. The opening address will be given by the chairman Cardinal Camillo Ruini, followed by Bishop Giuseppe Betori, Secretary General of the CEI who will develop the reflection on the parish initiated during the 52nd General Assembly of the CEI. The Meeting will also formulate the theme of the 53rd General Assembly to take place in Rome 17-21 May 2004. Moreover the Standing Council will examine the document “Communication and Mission. Directory on social communications in the mission of the Church in Italy”. The Bishops will also discuss other matters and make certain appointments. The meeting will close on 22 January. (S.L.)
