AMERICA/PERU - The Archdiocese of Lima celebrates a Mass on Sunday for China, one month after the quake that shook Sichuan

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – In commemoration of one month’s time since the earthquake that shook southeastern China, on June 15 the Archdiocese of Lima will celebrate a Mass for the country in the Basilica Cathedral of Lima, at 11am, presided by Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne, Archbishop of Lima, accompanied by Auxiliary Bishop Adriano Tomasi, priests from the Vicariate for Chinese Pastoral Ministry, and members of the numerous Chinese population present in Peru. The Archdiocese of Lima will also join in the day of prayer and solidarity for the brethren in China, declared by the Holy Father Benedict XVI on May 24.
His Excellency Adriano Tomasi, Auxiliary Bishop of Lima and Pastoral Vicar for the Chinese Community has asked all Catholics of the Chinese community in Lima, those involved in the three Peruvian-Chinese schools located in the capital, and all people of good will and friends of the Asian people to participate in this Mass, in which they will ask the Almighty to grant peace, consolation, and mercy to all those who have suffered from the earthquake on May 12, where over 60,000 people lost their lives. The main civil and military authorities have also been invited. The Mass will be accompanied by the Choir of the Peruvian-Chinese Cultural Association, who will sing the liturgical hymns in Chinese and Spanish. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 13/6/2008)
