AFRICA/UGANDA - Bishop of Kasana-Luweero appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on June 4, 2008, appointed Monsignor Paul Ssenogerere, Vicar General of Kampala, as Bishop of Kasana-Luweero (Uganda).
Monsignor Paul Ssenogerere was born in Kusubi (Archdiocese of Kampala), on June 30, 1956. He studied Philosophy at St. Mbaga Major Seminary in Kampala (1976-1978) and Theology at St. Francis Major Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA), where he received an MA in Theology (1978-1982). He was ordained a priest on June 3, 1983 for the Archdiocese of Kampala. He has since ministered as follows: 1983-1985: Professor and Vice-Rector of Nswanjere Junior Seminary; 1985-1990: Pastor of Nnyenga; 1990-1999: Head of Christ the King Deanery; since 1990: Pastor of Christ the King, Kampala; since 2001: Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Kampala. Mons. Ssemogerere is also President of the Board of Governors of St. Augustine College, Wakiso.
The Diocese of Kasana-Luweero, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Kampala, was erected in 1996. It covers an area of 8,539 km. sq., with a population of 209,792 Catholics, 16 parishes, 36 diocesan priests and 17 religious priests, 12 religious brothers, 52 religious sisters, 22 major seminarians and 90 minor seminarians.
