Thursday, 29 May 2008

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – With the motto: “For a Drug-Free Life,” the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference will launch the “Compartir” 2008 Solidarity Campaign on May 30, as an effort of the Bishops this year in creating awareness among the people on the problem of drugs and especially how it affects the youth and families. The campaign will be launched at 11am, with a press conference held in the auditorium of the Parish of Cristo Rey. The act will be presided by Bishop Lino Panizza Richero, OFM Cap. of Carabayllo, Secretary General of the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference. The “Compartir” 2008 Solidarity Campaign is an act of solidarity on the Church’s part, as it has been working since 1990 on a different theme each year, as proposed by the Annual Assembly of Peruvian Bishops. The initiative is to create an awareness among all citizens of the need for solidarity and fraternal/community support in sharing their goods with their suffering brethren. The objectives are to hold a national campaign on the issue, to create public awareness, and to find financial support for projects, with fundraising thanks to the help of companies, institutions, and public and parish collections.
