AMERICA/PERU - 4th Symposium on the Eucharist 2008, on the quest “to begin a new pastoral era and greater missionary commitment”

Lima (Agenzia Fides) - “The Eucharist, privileged encounter of the disciple with the Lord,” will be the main theme for the 4th Symposium on the Eucharist 2008 being organized by the Parish of Saint Joseph the Worker, the Missionaries of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and Mary Most Holy, and the CEP “Virgen de Fatima” in Barranco and that will take place in Lima May 26-28.
The symposium will be opened on Monday, May 26 by Cardinal Cardenal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne, Archbishop of Lima. Among the speakers are Bishop José Gea Escolano and Bishop Adriano Tomasi, Auxiliary Bishop of Lima. Bishop Escolano will speak on “The missionary disciples’ vocation to holiness” and Bishop Tomasi, on “The communion of the Church’s missionary disciples.”
Provincial Superior of the Congregation of Oblates of Saint Joseph, Father Manuel Manrique, OSJ, will speak on “Missionary disciples with specific vocations,” on May 27. Bishop Guillermo Inca Pereda, Vicar General of the Military Episcopate will give the closing speech on “The formation itinerary for missionary disciples in the Church.”
This Symposium will have as a its main goal, to contribute to the awareness of Jesus in the Eucharist and to begin this new pastoral era, and a greater missionary commitment in order to offer the Gospel as the path to the true life that God gives man, as well as to renew and promote participation in the Catholic Church through the encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist.
The symposium is geared towards teachers, pastoral ministers, parish groups, religious communities, and the general public. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 26/5/2008; righe 22, parole 256)
