AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Special collection for the victims of Myanmar and China this weekend

Friday, 23 May 2008

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas, asked that a special collection be taken up this weekend (May 24-25) to benefit the victims of natural disasters in Myanmar and China.
In a message that was sent to all priests, deacons, religious, and laity of the Archdiocese of Caracas, he affirmed that “in response to the concern expressed by several Bishops and other persons within the ecclesial environment, and in an attempt to show our support for those who are suffering from the results of recent natural disasters,” he has seen the need to call for a special collection in all parishes of the Archdiocese of Caracas, in order to raise funds to help the people of Myanmar and China who are suffering the aftermath of natural disasters.
All that is collected will be directly handed over to the Archbishop’s Administration, to be sent to the Venezuelan Bishops’ Conference, who will oversee the delivery of the funds via Caritas International to both countries. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 23/5/2008; righe 13, parole 165)
