AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Archbishop of Buenos Aires calls for two days of prayer for the nation May 24-25

Friday, 23 May 2008

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, has asked that May 24-25 be two days designated for prayer for the nation, as this weekend celebrates the anniversary of “the birth of our Country, together with the Feast of Corpus Christi, moment in which the Church commemorates in a solemn manner the institution of the Eucharist by Jesus in the Last Supper.”
Therefore, he has wished that these two days be dedicated to a fervent intense prayer for the country and he invites all the faithful to unite in participating in the Archdiocesan celebration of Corpus Christi, which will take place on Saturday, May 24, at 2:30pm in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral. In this celebration, the youth of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires will commence the Eucharistic feast with the 19th Youth Walk, with the theme: “I am here always,” as a means of reaffirming their fidelity to Jesus. On the way to the Plaza de Mayo, the youth pilgrims will distribute prayer cards with the “Prayer for the Nation” and will collect intentions to be offered during the Mass. Four groups of young people will begin the walk from different locations (San Cayetano Shrine, Parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Parish of San Antonio de Padua, and the Parish of Inmaculada Concepción) and will later all meet in the Plaza Once, where they will be received by Cardinal Bergoglio who will briefly address them and then they will all process together, praying for the Argentinean people, to the Plaza de Mayo.
