ASIA/CHINA - Diocese of Heng Shui discusses the quality of its catechumenal formation

Friday, 2 May 2008

Heng Shui (Agenzia Fides) - “300 people were baptized at the Easter Vigil, fairly less than in the past. However, we have also wanted to improve the quality of their formation,” said Bishop Feng Xin Mao of Heng Shui (previously Jing Xian), in the province of He Bei. “We postponed Baptism for almost 100 catechumens who did not meet the standards. We ask that all catechumens always attend Mass and parish activities. If they will not be able to participate, they must inform the priest or the catechists. So, we are most willing to postpone Baptism instead of simply looking for an increase in numbers,” Bishop Feng continued. Lastly, the Bishops mentioned that “the Church, for its part, is making the effort to offer the best possible formation for catechumens, inviting better instructors to come from other dioceses and even from other countries.” (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 2/5/2008; righe 11, parole 142)
