AMERICA/BRAZIL - “From a Brazil of baptized faithful, to a Brazil of missionaries without limits”: theme for the Second National Missionary Congress (May 1- 4)

Aparecida (Agenzia Fides) - With the theme, “From a Brazil of baptized faithful, to a Brazil of missionaries without limits,” Aparecida (Brazil) will host the Second National Missionary Congress from May 1 to 4. The event is being promoted by the Pontifical Mission Societies, the National Missionary Council, the Brazilian Bishops’ Conference (CNBB), and the Brazilian Conference of Religious. It is meant to be a preparation for the upcoming Third Missionary Congress (CAM 3) that will be celebrated in Quito (Ecuador), August 12-17.
The general objective of the Congress is “to awaken our missionary consciousness, guided by the Spirit, at the service of the Kingdom of God, and the light of the Aparecida Document, in preparation for CAM 3.” 500 people are expected to attend the event, in representation of the CNBB’s 17 regions.
Some of the themes for the Congress are: “The meaning of the missionary path in Latin America since Vatican II to Aparecida”; “The formation of the community as missionary without limits”; “The mission for humanity, as responsibility of the ordained ministers of the local churches”; “The consecrated as a prophetic presence of the missionary Church among us and in the world”; “Perspectives of evangelization for the mission of the laity and families in the face of the new challenges of a globalized world”; “The missions for children and youth: seeds for a new humanity”; “Missionaries of the Amazon for the world”; “Communication and mission: the mass media at the service of evangelization.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 30/4/2008; righe 20, parole 246)
