AMERICA/COSTA RICA - First National Encounter for Lay Missionaries in Costa Rica, preparation for First Regional Encounter

Wednesday, 30 April 2008

San Jose (Agenzia Fides) - This past weekend (April 26-27), Costa Rica held its First National Encounter for Lay Missionaries, organized and promoted by the “Ad Gentes” Department of the National Missions Council. The Encounter was held as an opportunity to come together to discuss in-depth the task of the lay missionaries in Costa Rica, exchange missionary experiences, and promote greater interest in the missionary work in this country.
“Crossing to the other shore with Jesus” was the theme for the reflection during the two-day Encounter, with the hope that renewed strength, new ministries, and new vocations will arise in Costa Rica.
This encounter also served as a preparation for the celebration of the upcoming Regional Encounter of Lay Missionaries, which has been organized by the Department of Spirituality and Missions (DEMIS) of CELAM and will take place in Costa Rica, as well. This celebration is scheduled to take place at the beginning of June. Invitations have been sent to all missionaries in the region, through the Pontifical Mission Societies in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
