AMERICA/COSTA RICA - Preparations for CAM 3 conclude in Costa Rica, after four years of hard work

Tuesday, 29 April 2008

San Jose (Agenzia Fides) - The formation meetings for study of the CAM 3 Manual and the forming of the national delegation for the Congress, which will be celebrated in Quito in August of this year, concluded in Costa Rica this past Saturday, April 26, according to information given to Agenzia Fides from Alexander Q. Castillo, Advisor for the Pontifical Mission Societies in the country. The process has finally reached its conclusion after four years of hard work, during which there has been an intense follow-up effort made with the participants of CAM 2 (Guatemala, 2003), as well as with the projects that came out of that Congress, through a systematic reflection and promotion of various missionary experiences.
In this meeting, the main reflection was given by Father Victor Mora, who formed a part of the Costa Rican delegation in Aparecida. His talk, entitled: “The challenges of Christianity in a new society: reflections on the Document of Aparecida,” was the starting point for the discussion of Chapter 5 of the Manual, “Missionary Community for Humanity.” There was also a presentation made of the representatives from the Church in Costa Rica who will go to Ecuador, a total of 55 people from all the different dioceses across the country.
In his closing remarks, Alexander Q. Castillo, who had directed the process, thanked the Bishops’ Conference for their support, especially Bishop Vittorino Girardi, head of the missions department, as well as the National Director of PMS, and the missionaries who dedicate themselves so generously to working for the Kingdom of God. Those present took the opportunity to offer their farewell to Mr. Castillo, who will soon travel to the United States, to follow a vocational path in the Diocese of Oakland, California.
