Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - Over 300 members of the Legion of Mary in Taiwan, especially in Tai Pei, have participated in the annual Congress 2008 that took place on March 15. According to Christian Life Weekly, the weekly bulletin for the Archdiocese of Tai Pei, His Excellency John Hung, SVD, the newly-appointed Archbishop of Tai Pei, presided the Mass with the renewal of professions made by members of the Legion of Mary, symbol of their renewed evangelization effort in this 150th anniversary of the evangelization of Taiwan. The Archbishop said, “this coming year we will be celebrating the 160th anniversary of the evangelization of Taiwan. Our goal is to have 15,000 baptisms on the island (5,000 in Tai Pei). We gather together today to reflect on the life of Mary, whose primary mission was to bring Jesus into the world. That is why I am sure that our members of the Legion of Mary will follow in the Virgin Mary’s footsteps in order to fulfill her mission.” Prior to the final blessing, the members of the Legion of Mary in Taiwan renewed their profession before the image of the Virgin Mary and Archbishop Hung confirmed their fidelity to the Blessed Mother.
