AMERICA/MEXICO - Sunday, April 6, Interreligious Walk for peace and human values: “all the members of this community, no matter their religious beliefs, share in the desire for peace.”

Monterrey (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Jose Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Monterrey (Mexico) has written a letter asking all Catholics to participate in the Walk for Peace and Human Values, an interreligious activity that will take place on Sunday, April 6, at 5pm, in Heroes Park. He has also encouraged all priests and religious to promote prayer for peace in their communities.
The Walk for Peace has been organized by representatives from various religions, in order to continue asking God for the gift of peace and of fortitude in strengthening His people as they give testimony of human values. “We, as Catholics,” the Cardinal said, “should also support this initiative and participate with joy and openness...We cannot be indifferent to our commitment, as Catholics, to be a positive and edifying presence in our society,” especially since “peaceful coexistence and our community’s security continue to be battered by violent events that cause uncertainty among our brethren.”
The goal for the Walk, according to the Cardinal, is to “gather all believers of our community and all persons of goodwill with the intention of praying in order to recall the power of the Holy Spirit that we have received and that can obtain whatever our heart needs. The event should be public, in testimony of the desire for peace and the need to promote values that is something that we all share as members of this community, no matter what our religious beliefs may be.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 4/4/2008; righe 19, parole 241)
