Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The number of Korean adults who take interest in the Catholic faith and begin the journey to Baptism is constantly on the rise. In order to help them, as well as those who simply have a curiosity for the Catholic faith, the Korean Church has published a guidebook entitled, “Living an authentic faith,” published by the Conference of Major Superiors and Institutes of Religious Life in Korea.
The guidebook, that is intended to accompany the catechumens on their way to Baptism, stresses the importance of prayer and real life, more than simply a theoretical knowledge, describing the faith as “ortopraxis,” or experience and personal encounter with Christ. That is why catechumens are advised to go on a pilgrimage and visit places of the faith like shrines to the Korean martyrs. It is also suggested that they participate in days of retreat and prayer that can deepen their relationship with God. The guidebook also places an emphasis on reading and meditating the Word of God and on performing works of charity, so that each person can discover Christ in his brothers and in the poor.
The guidebook, that has been presented and well-received in the many dioceses and parishes of Korea is also a useful instrument for the catechists who accompany the catechumens on their path of formation. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 2/4/2008; righe 18, parole 220)
