ASIA/CHINA - Chinese Catholics united with universal Church, pray intensely for Christian unity

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - Chinese Catholics are praying intensely during this annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in communion with the universal Church and in answer to the Holy Father's call last Sunday at the Angelus. According to reports sent to Fides, Catholics and other Christians are taking part in various initiatives to promote unity in different parts of mainland China including Concerts of sacred music which were warmly applauded also by many non Christians..
According to Christian Life Weekly issued by Tai Pei archdiocese a prayer meeting for Christian unity was held on 19 January in Taipei Cathedral. The initiative was promoted by the archdiocese of Taipei and communities of Christians of other denominations. The participants prayed intensely for unity in a spirit of devotion and friendship.
Kong Ko Bao bulletin issued by the diocese of Hong Kong said the president of the Hong Kong diocesan commission for Christian unity, Rev Xue Jun Hao, presented an overall picture of the initiatives in the diocese to promote unity among Christians: “In recent years we have seen considerable development of charismatic groups, Catholic and non Catholic, and this has made a great contribution towards unity. The members are mainly simply people. It is important to intensify efforts for unity especially at the level of Basic Ecclesial Communities. We organised various initiatives for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity visiting parishes and groups, pilgrimages with the participation of all the local Christians”.
