ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Bible Week closes: suggested reflections for Advent 2007

Monday, 3 December 2007

Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The purpose of Bible Week held in Korea was to offer the faithful suggestions for living a fruitful Advent. The theme discussed by experts and the faithful was “Seed and Lamps for the World”, meditating on “a new creature, a new life for the world, for the life of every man and woman”, and “the light which the Word made flesh brings to humanity”. In the final message issued at the end of the Bible Week, Bishop John Chrysostom Kwon Hyeok-ju, president of the Korean Bishops' Biblical Commission says “the Word of God, faith and life are three inseparable elements. Christian should receive the Word of the Bible as the Word revealed by God, taking a more active part in the liturgical life of the Church and living the faith in the community”.
The Bishop said “the Seed is God's Word planted in the field of our heart and the Lamp means the Light of the Word which shines for the world”. He also announced that the "Word of God" was chosen as the theme for next meeting of World Federation of Bible Apostolate to be held in Kenya 24 June - 3 July 2008, recalling that the "Word of God in the life of the Church" is the theme of next Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops to be held 5 - 26 October 2008 in the Vatican.
The Bishop concluded by saying that at the beginning of this new Liturgical year the Church “recognises the value of the Word of God and urges Christians to make it the essential and indispensable reference point for the faith” (PA) (Agenzia Fides 3/12/2007 righe 25 parole 252)
