Phnom Penh (Agenzia Fides) - Schools and training schools are channels of charity through which the Catholic community Cambodia promotes socio-cultural of the young people, and therefore the nation, helping to build a society of more justice and freedom, respect for the rights and dignity of every human person. This vision inspires the work of Catholic religious involved in education in Cambodia, and the many Catholic schools of all grades open to children to every race and creed.
In recent months there has been a boom in school registration. At least 2,000 young people from various provinces travelled to Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville to fill in an application form for one of the two Salesian technical schools in these cities. Don Bosco Technical Schools, according to the Salesian bulletin ANS, offer courses for electricians, mechanics, tourist workers and media workers and secretarial work. In agreement with the Cambodian ministry for education the school take young people aged between 16 and 21 whose families are especially poor.
Recently the Salesians opened a Bosco Bakery School at Siem Reap, 300 km from Phnom Penh, with the help of “Volontariato Internazionale Donna Educazione Sviluppo” (VIDES) based in Japan, and promoted by the Sisters, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
