ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Catholic University of Korea opens Asia's first Highly Specialised School of Bio-ethics

Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The first Highly Specialised School of Bio-ethics in Asia has been opened in Seoul, South Korea, at the Catholic University of Korea. The recently inaugurated Institute, named after Cardinal Nicholas Cheong, the Archbishop of Seoul, has the approval of the ministry for education and development of human resources. Students have registered for the academic year 2007-2008.
Teachers include scientists, doctors, theologians, anthropologists who work in two departments, Bio-ethics and Culture of Life. The courses are open to students, doctors and other people anxious to know more about the field of Bio-ethics, media operators, politicians, members of civil society associations.
The Catholic University of Korea in Seoul decided to open a Highly Specialised School of Bio-ethics in view of a growing demand to know more in a field, considered strategic for the future of Korean society.
Many institutes had organised seminars on bio-ethical issues, given the public relevance given to these matters: now the competencies are united Highly Specialised School of Bio-ethics which the Archbishop of Seoul defined “a sign of the times”.
The first Dean of the School, Rev. Remigio Lee Dong-ik, stated: "Bio-ethics starts from a correct understanding of the human person, which has a its basis God's love for humanity.
