Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - “The festival of good evangelising cuisine is the best way to promote harmony in the family and to evangelise the world” said a priest of Kow Loon deanery during Mission Sunday celebrated in Hong Kong on 26 September. According to Hong Kong diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao this year the diocese asked the deanery to organise the diocesan Mission Sunday events in order to involve more people. There was a great variety of proposals and ideas to draw attention and promote missionary activity. Kow Loon deanery culinary mission certainly reached its objective, attracting the interest of thousands with the idea of giving dishes missionary themes. The most popular was grilled chicken wings called “taking off for evangelisation”. One dish contained a mixture of Chinese and western vegetables to symbolise communion between the Catholic Church in China and the Catholic Church in the west and to express a wish expressed by the cook who prepared the dish that the Pope soon may visit China.
A local Catholic said: “The Family is the theme of this year and next year. The diocese is therefore giving maximum attention to the Family. Now meals are an important reference point for the family, a time to share to talk to transmit affection. And this is also a way to evangelise”. The priest said “the people were more involved than in the past. The initiative helped promote communion and solidarity among the faithful and with all members of society”.
