ASIA/MYANMAR - October 6, Day of prayer and action for peace in Myanmar

London (Agenzia Fides) -Prayers, Meetings and Demonstrations will be held on 6 October "Day of global action” for peace in Myanmar, organised by the association Christian Solidarity Worldwide which defends the rights of religious minorities all over the world. Numerous civil society organisations have joined to initiative. Silent marches will remember the victims of repression and urge governments to take the necessary measures to stop violence on the people of Myanmar.
CSW calls on Christians all over the world to unite in prayer and peaceful marches to demonstrate solidarity with the Burmese people. Participants will include many Burmese emigrants or exiles who see new hope for respect for human rights in their country.
CSW calls for an international embargo on the Myanmar government to demand respect for human rights and freedom and calls on the governments of India and China to pressure the junta in Rangoon to stop the violent repression. According to Myanmar radio and television in the past week the number of people arrested was 2,093 and 692 opposition members have already been released.
