Bobo-Dioulasso (Agenzia Fides)- This year the archdiocese of Bobo -Dioulasso, in Burkina Faso, is marking its 80th anniversary.
In the homily during the Mass to close a series of celebrations the Archbishop Paul Y.Ouedraogo said “this jubilee is an opportunity for us to see the apostolic growth of our diocesan Church. These celebrations have been an occasion to thank God for the wonders worked among you and through you, His people”.
Among the blessings received Archbishop Ouedraogo recalled the numerous vocations: “There are more than 60 diocesan priests in this diocese which has given bishops to Kayes, Fada N’Gourma and Banfara; men and women religious and a wonderful team of catechists, mothers and fathers devoted to proclaiming and explaining the Word of God to help adults and children grow in the faith; continual flow of priestly and religious vocations, encouraged by the Samuels Maria Goretti group”. In addition to this the diocese has its own minor seminary at Nasso, 14 parishes, 22 institutes of consecrated life including a monastery of contemplatives at Kiri, several Catholic schools, structures for development, associations, prayer groups, spiritual families. “These are some of the many blessings we have received from God ” the Bishop said.
Created as an apostolic prefecture on 15 December 1927, ten years later in 1937 it became an apostolic Vicariate and then a diocese on 14 September 1955. In 2001 it was raised to the rank of archdiocese. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 18/7/2007 righe 24 parole 283)
